Dear Friends, we pray that this update finds you well and encouraged during these uncertain times. It seems that nothing more can surprise us only to read in the morning news that one more thing has been shaken overnight. The writer of Hebrews contrasts the stability between kingdoms, and says,
“Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by
which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe.”
(Heb. 12:28 NASB)
In the discourse preceding this verse, the writer reveals that God will “once more” shake
everything that is not in line with his kingdom and righteousness, and only the unshakable
will remain. But please don’t misunderstand my purpose here as I have no interest in ‘apocalyptic ambulance chasing’ or prophetically interpreting yesterday’s news. It is the gospel that shakes everything, even shaking believers away from lethargy, self, and sin, dislodging us from futile endeavors and orienting us to “an acceptable service with reverence and awe.”
